Hook G

Yarn: Dishcloth cotton

Color A is a solid and B is a variegated.

W/ A. Ch. 40

Row1: Sc in 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. (39)

Row 2: Join w/ B. Ch. 2, Hdc in back loops of each stitch across. Ch. 2, Turn. (39)

Row 3: Hdc in each stitch across. (39)

Row 4: Bring up A. Ch. 1, Sc in front loops of each chain across. Ch1. turn(39)

Row 5: Sc in front loops of first 4 stitches. Dtrc in front post of the 5th stitch in the first row. Basically, you will be putting the dtrc around the front post of the Row A of color below. (skip one stitch because that is really where it falls behind the dtrc.) *Sc in front loops of next 5 stitches, Dtrc in front post of the next stitch, again in Row. 1 below, repeat at *, end with sc in the front loops of the last 4 stitches.

Row 6: Bring up B. Ch 2. Hdc in back loops of each stitch across. Ch. 2, Turn. (39)

Row 7: Hdc in each stitch across. (39)

Row 8: Bring up A. Ch. 1, Sc in front loops of each chain across. Ch1. turn(39)

Row 9: Sc in front loop of first stitch. Dtrc in front post of the 2nd stitch in the contrast row of row 5. Basically, you will be putting the dtrc around the front post of the Row A of color below. (skip one stitch because that is really where it falls behind the dtrc.) *Sc in front loops of next 5 stitches, Dtrc in front post of the next stitch, again in Row. 5 below, repeat at *, end with sc in the front loop of the last stitch.

Repeat rows 2-9 three times. Repeat 2-5 again. Bind Off.

Note: when I pick up the color from the previous row. Chain and then cross the old color over the new color.

This is a crocheted dishcloth, inspired by the knit ball band dishcloth in the Mason Dixon book.

Edited to Add (since this is commonly asked) dtrc = double treble crochet.  Amy has a great video on it on her website NexStitch.
